Here’s information on the course. . .
LET’S CHANGE THE WORLD ONE SMILE AT A TIME!
-Are you worn down by the struggle to create a new sermon every week?
-Do you feel stuck in your creativity?
-Can you grab and keep your congregation’s attention for the full sermon?
-Are there negative voices that hold you back (members of your congregation and your own)?
These are real problems for real pastors.
Trust me, I get it. I preach every week, too.
I’m Susan Sparks–a 20-year preacher and professional standup. Join me in my new course, Preaching Punchlines where I’ll share the tools that can transform your preaching; tools that comedians have leveraged for years.
And just to give you a little comfort level, my “Preaching Punchlines: The Ten Commandments of Comedy” has been featured by Union Theological Seminary, Yale Divinity School, the Lester Randall Preaching Fellowship, Chautauqua Institution, and various religious denominations across the country.
IN THIS COURSE YOU WILL LEARN TO:
-Frame messages that will immediately engage people and hold their attention;
-Find your creative voice;
-Overcome “hecklers” or negative voices that ring in your head;
-Bring full authenticity into the pulpit so that people connect with you on a deep level;
-Master the craft of editing so that your messages will be remembered and shared;
-Build bridges that overcome differences and form community; and
-Share joyous communication in all that you do.
THE COURSE INCLUDES: Twelve videos (approximately 10-15 minutes each), exercises, bonus segments, access to a private Facebook page where you can post questions and ideas, and live calls twice monthly.
Now, it’s not my style to throw out resume stuff – but since you are considering spending money, here’s my expertise:
-A trial lawyer turned standup comedian and full-time preacher;
-A Master of Divinity graduate of Union Theological Seminary with an honors thesis on humor and religion;
-Senior Pastor of the historic Madison Avenue Baptist Church (NYC) since 2007 (and the first woman in its 170-year history);
-A TEDx and inspirational speaker who presents to over 10,000 people annually;
-An award-wining nationally syndicated columnist;
-A 20-year professional comedian appearing across the country with the Laugh in Peace Tour;
-My work has been featured in media, such as the Oprah Magazine, the New York Times, the Tamron Hall Show, ABC, CNN, CBS, and the History Channel;
-Author of Laugh Your Way to Grace: Reclaiming the Spiritual Power of Humor and Preaching Punchlines: The Ten Commandments of Comedy
-Awards: the 20th recipient of the John L. Haber Award for Outstanding Contribution to the Arts given by the University of North Carolina (and comedian/alum Lewis Black), as well as a recipient (along with Senator Corie Booker) of the Intersections International Award for interfaith work to promote justice and reconciliation among diverse communities.
COST OF THE COURSE $297.00
For every course sold, Preaching Punchlines will give $10 to a selection of organizations that leverage humor for healing. In 2019-20, that organization will be Comedy Cures.
Here’s the bottom line. Anyone can learn to give a decent sermon. Very few can give one that reaches from one heart to another, bonds those listeners together, and sends them out into the world inspired to share their new-found joy.
Together let’s change the world, one heart, one smile, one laugh at a time. -Susan
